Should I go?

Hey there, Babbies!  It’s me, Von (VonAngel), writing thru my alter ego, “Samara Simonson”.  She was created by the Fabulous Senam and myself to bring you all a little entertainment while planning your [sometimes stressful] weddings.  I will take you all into the lives and minds of “Samara” and her loved ones from her pre-engagement life up until her wedding day.  So, please enjoy!

Chapter 1

“Well, hey there, sweetness”, I heard a masculine voice say when I answered the phone.
“Hi, ” I say in a confused tone.  “Who is this?”
“Oh, you know who this is.”
“No, can’t say that I do.”  I have not the slightest clue who this could be.  “Give me a hint.”
“Why do I need to give you a hint when your heart is telling you the answer.”

I sigh.  I’m trying to get ready for my typical” Taco and TV” Thursday date night with David, and this fool insists on making me late. I can’t break the three year tradition for this mess…

“Look, I’m kind of in a hurry, so could you please make this fast,” I say firmly.
“Oh…my… ‘make it fast’ is something I’ve never heard you say,” he says in a low yet smooth tone.

My heart rate increases by at least a hundred .  I can’t speak.  I place my right hand against my chest in hopes of it calming me down.  I sit gently on the edge of the bed, placing my feet next to my box of Steve Madden ankle boots with the wooden heels.  I swallow deeply to control my breathing.  Nothing is working!  I want to speak, but my tongue and lips cannot form words.

“Hello?” he calls out to me.
“Ric –”   Damn, why can’t I say his name?!
“Yes?” he replies.  It seems like he broke the word “yes” into three, sexy syllables.
“It’s me, baby girl.”

I can feel the shape of my lips change.  The corners of my mouth are starting to stretch toward my ears.  My top lip is exposing my front teeth while they scrape across my bottom lip.  My eyes close softly, and I am catapulted back to the airport watching his back as he walks away from me and heads toward Gate Number 14 with a carry-on bag in his right hand.

I gasp and quickly open my eyes.

“Are you still there,” he asks.
“Oh…yeah…I’m still here.  Sorry about that.  I was trying to find my shoes.”  Yeah, right.  “So, what do I owe this pleasure?”
“Well, how about dinner tonight?”
“Dinner? Tonight?”
“Yeah.  Tonight.  I’m in town for the next few days on business and thought I would give an old friend a call to see if she could fit me into her possibly busy schedule.  So, what do you say?”

Is this man serious?  I haven’t heard from him in four years, and suddenly, he pops back up, expecting me to alter my plans just because he’s in town “for a few days”.

“Richard, I haven’t heard from you in years, and I -”
“I know, I know…I should have been a better man than that, and that’s part of the reason why I would like to have dinner with you tonight.  We need to catch up, yes, but there is so much more I need to tell you.”
“I did have plans for tonight, Richard, and I can’t cancel.”

Still sitting on the edge of the bed, my feet are playing with the shoes while I’m watching the second hand on the clock tick.  David is waiting for me to call to let him know when I’m ready to be picked up.

“Baby girl, I’m not asking you to cancel.  My intention is not to disrupt your life.  I’m only in town for 3 days, and tonight is the only night I’ll have completely free.  I tell you what; just give me thirty minutes of your time.  You will be under no obligation to stay past the thirty minutes or eat a full meal.  You don’t even have to talk if you don’t want to.  I just want you to listen.”

I have always loved the way he spoke.  He always knew what to say and how to say it.  He never used broken English and with every sentence, he spoke with such elegance and professionalism.  How can I still love the way he speaks?  How can my ears never grow tired?  Why doesn’t my heart know how to stop responding to him?  Why do my arms long to wrap themselves around his slim, sexy waist and my hands ache to touch his muscular back?

“Come on, Mara,” he says encouragingly.  “What do ya say?”

To be continued….
